Six of the last eight Cox Plate favourites might have won but there is a damning stat that Romantic Warrior fans should be aware of ahead of Saturday’s weight-for-age championship at Moonee Valley.
Not since So You Think won the first of his two Cox Plates in 2009 has a horse been unplaced in their final lead-up run before victory in the Cox Plate.
Romantic Warrior finished fourth as the hot favourite in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes earlier this month. The winner of that race, Gold Trip, has since placed in the Caulfield Cup.

TRACKWALKER INFO FOR MOONEE VALLEY OCTOBER 28
“At acceptance time the track is good with Lanes 1 and 2 both OK and winnable. Lanes 3 to 5 is the ‘sweet spot’ and we expect the bulk of the winners to come through these lanes. Advantage stalkers/ On-pace runners”
Who’s hot at Moonee Valley?
A & S Freedman boast a 29 per cent strike rate at Moonee Valley over the last 12 months and, during that time, have produced a +41 per cent Return On Investment
Moonee Valley watchlist
Race 9 No.11 MILITARIZE
Think of how good Chris Waller’s three-year-olds have been over the years and then ask yourself, ‘why is this the first runner from that age bracket he’s taken to a Cox Plate?’ Because [no pun intended] he’s a weapon. The colt’s late sectionals are blistering and if he can reproduce them at the end of this 2040m contest then it’ll take a very good performance to stop him.
Race 5 No.4 ANTINO
Went down narrowly in the G1 Toorak Hcp last start but lost no admirers. He rises in weight but his barrier gives jockey Blake Shinn the option of sitting outside the leader, which should be Tuvalu or parking fourth, one off the fence. These options for Shinn is what makes Antino so hard to beat here.
Race 8 No.6 IMPERATIRZ
She’s probably too short for most punters at $1.50 but gets on the Watchlist for being the best sprinter currently in Australia with maybe Think About It the challenger. She’s unbeaten in four runs at Moonee Valley and her ratings are off the charts
TRACKWALKER INFO FOR RANDWICK OCTOBER 28
“Inside lanes look better than usual for this rail position and we are forecasting you can win from anywhere at Randwick this Saturday”
Who’s hot at Randwick?
Aaron Bullock rode a double at Randwick last Saturday and is striking at 26 per cent in recent times. Looks to have a good chance in race three aboard Florino
Race 7 No.10 MEDATSU
Super interesting galloper who arrived from New Zealand with just four runs under his belt and having never raced beyond 1600m. Went straight to 2000m for his first run in the Waller camp and won. Now goes straight to G1 company signalling the stable must think he’s well above average yet he’s $61 in early betting. In addition to this, he remains the only three-year-old in contention for this year’s Melbourne Cup and he’s $201/$51 there.
Race 9 No.11 ARCTIC GLAMOUR
Monster win first-up clocking the best late splits of the day by a fair margin. Went bang again second-up and should be very hard to beat here with an inch of luck from the rail draw.
Short-priced favourite out to make it four straight at the Valley
Rule breach crushes popular jockey’s Melbourne Cup farewell
