Trainer Enver Jusufovic is hoping to pull off one of the all-time Cox Plate upsets when he saddles up Pinstriped for Saturday’s $5 million race at Moonee Valley.
It will be the biggest race of Jusufovic’s career, but the humble trainer isn’t feeling nervous at all.

“I get more nervous sinking the last putt in the club championship playing golf,” he said.
Not as well-known as his experienced rivals Chris Waller and Gai Waterhouse, Jusufovic joked he’d be the one “carrying their bags” if they all walked out together.

Jusufovic’s journey to horse training is unique.
Growing up in Footscray as the son of immigrants from Yugoslavia, Jusufovic’s parents had their first date at the racetrack.
By the age of 10, he was selling newspapers on race days at Flemington.

He delivered Four’N Twenty pies before pursing his passion for racing in the late 1990s.
Saturday’s $5 million Cox Plate is a far cry from his first win as a trainer.
“It was only at the picnics; it was about $200,” he said.
Pinstriped might be a rank outsider at 70-1, but Jusufovic believes he can spring a surprise after winning his way into the 12-horse field via the Feehan Stakes last month.
“He’s earned his right,” he said.
“Can we win? Absolutely.”
But not even a racing upset for the ages would change the humble trainer’s outlook on life.
“Money won’t change my life. If I’m able to win the Cox Plate the old car out there needs four new tyres,” he said.
“Hopefully I can come from obscurity and from a working-class area and mix it with the best of them.”
