The inaugural Quokka champion, Overpass will be looking to add The Everest trophy to his name today and has stamped himself as a leading chance after Tuesday’s barrier draw.
Barrier two is pivotal to the son of Vancouver’s chances with many form experts expecting him to get a soft lead in front and prove hard to run down, similar in the way he won the Quokka earlier this year.

His trainer Bjorn Baker agreed when appearing on 7 Horse Racing’s program Horses for Courses, to speak about his runner in Saturday’s $20 million feature.
“I think the race maps pretty good for him. He’ll lead it, just depends how far.”
“He’s much better set up this year too, he’s had four weeks between runs and last year he only had the two weeks. He gets his preferred good track,” he said.

Tuesday’s barrier draw took place on super yacht ‘The Jackson’ on Sydney Harbour and a contingent on the boat erupted when Overpass drew gate two, which included representatives from slot holder Ram Racing and the large ownership headed by Darby Syndications.
After being passed in for $140,000, Bjorn Baker and the team at Darby Racing came together to purchase him for $75,000 and find themselves running in a $20 million race and daring to dream.

Slotholder Ram Racing entered the picture after Overpass ran in their slot in the $4 million Quokka earlier this year.
Overpass held off superstar Amelia’s Jewel to win for the Ram Racing team, who have now partnered up with the ATC to share a slot in the Everest.
“(The Ram Racing team) are a lot of fun. They come with a special uniform and wear big cowboy hats. They are really going to add something to the races and they really like a good time,” said Baker.
Baker is also no slouch when it comes to celebrating and viral vision of him going over the top at the track makes for hilarious viewing.

“I wear my heart on the sleeve,” Baker told Seven’s Horses for Courses.
“That’s what it’s about. You gotta enjoy the wins, they’re hard to get.
“It’s very competitive. You’ve got to enjoy it while you can.”
If Overpass does happen to get up on Saturday, wild scenes will certainly be at short odds at Randwick.
The 12 runners in today’s event are trained to the minute and 7 Horse Racing presenter Emma Freedman went behind the scenes with Bjorn Baker at trackwork on Tuesday as he put Overpass through his final paces ahead of today’s $20 million Everest.
