Attention all horse racing fans! Prepare for an exciting new addition to your Saturday racing coverage as Seven, the home of horse racing, unveils the 7Racing Medal.
The 7Racing Medal will operate on a 3, 2, 1 voting system, where the team, led by Bruce McAvaney, will allocate three votes to the standout performer of the day every Saturday.

Ahead of Saturday’s first broadcast of the season, Jason Richardson, part of the 7Racing team, expressed his excitement for the award.
“We designed the Medal to reward the most outstanding jockeys or trainers across both states,” he said.
“There’s never been an award in racing that combines the trainers and jockeys in the big metropolitan states broadcast on Channel 7.
“We are in a unique position to be able to cover the absolute creme de la creme of Australian racing, so let’s find out who’s been the most outstanding performer week in and week out.”

Only jockeys and trainers are eligible to receive votes for the 7Racing Medal and to be considered, their performances must exclusively take place at venues and races broadcast by 7Racing.
“I’m fascinated by what the results will be. It could be a jockey that rides four winners. It could be a trainer that produces a horse that hasn’t raced for 12 months and wins a Saturday race at Randwick, for example,” Richardson said.
Voting for the inaugural 7Racing Medal begins on tomorrow’s broadcast and every Saturday until the final Saturday of the season next year when the winner of the 7Racing Medal will be crowned.
